The House of Representatives Committee on Capital Market and Institutions on Tuesday began a public hearing on the strife between the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, and the suspended Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Mounir Gwarzo.
The public hearing is chaired by the committee’s chairman, Tajudeen Yusuf, a PDP member from Kogi state.
Mr Gwarzo, alongside two directors of the agencies, were suspended by the minister following allegation of financial bribe, but Gwarzo, who defended himself against the allegations tackled the minister with counter accusation.
The minister’s action was quickly greeted by criticisms, with the lawmakers in the lower chamber calling her to return the Director-General to his office.
Already, the federal government has, in December, replaced the suspended Gwarzo with Abdul Zubair as the acting Director General of the agency with immediate effect.
