An early morning fire outbreak has claimed the lives of seven members of a family in Kano state.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the incident occurred at Tudunwada community of Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state, following electric sparks.
An eyewitness, Idi Maikatako, said the incident happened around 12 midnight when the victims were asleep.
The witness said that the fire started immediately after electricity supply was restored at the area, leading to a spark in one of the rooms.
Mr Maikatako said the fire killed the father, Malam Sule, his wife and five of his six children.
He further said that the sixth child is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
When contacted, the spokesperson for Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the incident, explaining that the victims possibly died as a result of suffocation from the fire outbreak.
According to him, the Service received a distress call at about 12:25am from a resident, Ibrahim Sani, that a house was on fire.
He explained that on receiving the report, the headquarters mobilized its men at the Dakata division who rushed to the scene and found that the fire had already been put off by Good Samaritans but seven members of the family died.
Mr Yusuf added that their investigation revealed that the victims died of suffocation and the fire was caused by electric spark.
“We got a distress call in the wee hours of today through one Ibrahim Sani. When our men got to the scene, they discovered It was a residential house that was razed by fire outbreak.
“Seven people lost their lives in the incident as they were suffocated by the smoke from incident. The victims were rushed to the hospital where they were confirmed died.
“When our men got to the scene, they discovered the victims were evacuated to the hospital and neighbors as well as good Samaritan had put off the fire before our men got to the scene,” he said.
The spokesperson, therefore, advised residents to always disconnect electric appliances after use and while going out of their houses or offices to avert fire outbreaks.
