The Nigerian senate, Thursday morning, abruptly adjourned its plenary sitting following the outbreak of fire in the technical room at the basement of the national assembly.
The basement, popularly known as the ‘White House basement’, is housing banks and mosque.
The cause of the fire was not yet known but efforts are underway to put the inferno out.
Staff and business officials are moving to secured areas for their safety, while senators, already seated at the Chambers, were seen vacating it.
Thursday is traditionally the last day of the week for the lawmakers to sit at the plenary and as such, it has been adjourned to next week because of the incident.
