The Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria, FOMWAN, Nasarawa State chapter, has trained over 80 women on different small scale businesses.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the training was in collaboration with Global Centre for Human Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development, GLOCHEED.
Speaking during the 3-day workshop in Lafia, the state capital, the GLOCHEED Programme Manager, Uzogwu Obinna, said the training was to enable women acquire business skills and get free access to interest loans.
Mr Obinna further explained that the training was also aimed at creating awareness to women on the importance of the Federal Government intervention funds.
This, he said, was geared towards addressing restiveness among women and youths across the country to become self-reliant.
He noted that the programme targets over sixty percent of women across the state.
He, therefore, urged the participants to give useful information to other women in the state on the programme to enable them access the funds to enhance their businesses.
The Assistant Zonal Coordinator of FOMWAN in charge of Nasarawa, Niger and FCT, Dr Zainab Ahmed, explained that the move by the Federal Government to assist women with the free interest loan was a right step in the right direction.
Mrs Ahmed added that the government could not provide white-collar-jobs to all its citizens.
On her part, the state FOMWAN Amirat, Habiba Abdullahi, said the idea behind the training was to get women with the required knowledge on businesses to enable them use the loan as expected.
The Amirat, therefore, called on women in the state to use the opportunity to boost their Small scale businesses.
