Dr Abdulrazak Balogun, former Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has described Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, as “a huge blessing to Surulere”.
Mr Balogun, in a tribute to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, said that Gbajabiamila was a great leader, go-getter parliamentarian and an extraordinary public servant.
“His developmental interventions in Surulere, Lagos State and beyond are there for everyone to see.
“One cannot even count the legacy projects; they range from solar-enabled street lights in more than 300 streets, 50 reconstructed road networks and the construction of the first secondary school in Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area.
Other interventions include the Mini Stadium in Orile, Agricultural Research Training Centre, Odo-Olowu, Ijeshatedo, Itire-Ikate, among others.
Balogun described the projects as “unprecedented in the history of our dear nation”.
“These transformative initiatives carefully implemented under the watchful eyes of Gbajabiamila have left an indelible mark on the landscape and their impact will endure for generations to come.
“Each project stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to the betterment of his immediate community, Lagos State and the nation as a whole
“It is good to give honour to whom it is due. Gbajabiamila deserves to be recognised. His goods keep speaking for him,” he said.
Balogun also spoke on Gbajabiamila’s “fruitful journey as an outstanding representative and leader”.
“It began with humble beginnings as a member of the House of Representatives who was elected six times since he debuted in 2003.
“That he was elected six times is an unmatched record.
“I write as a former three-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly where I
used my legislative mandate as a platform to debate the aspirations of my people and demand for the budgeting and execution of their expressed needs.
“It is instructive to state that the performances of the former speaker and chief of Staff to the president on his legislative journey, against all odds and obstacles, was a huge immeasurable success.
“Gbajabiamila’s long stay in the legislative corridor has provided him with ample time to mature legislatively and further acquire a profound understanding of the nitty-gritty of legislative business.
“This wealth of experience has enabled him to effectively wield his knowledge and expertise in impacting the lives of the Nigeria people.
“Also, he has consistently displayed, while at the house, that a legislative assembly and its members could devise a peaceful process of diplomacy through which they could arm-twist the Executive arm into meeting key needs like providing facilities and amenities that will raise the living standards of their constituents.
“Through his dedicated service and tireless commitment, he achieved unparalleled leadership attributes which served as an inspiration to both his constituents and fellow parliamentarians,” Balogun said.
