A former commissioner for information in Niger State and ontime editor at LEADERSHIP newspapers, Danladi Ndayebo, has died.
Mr Ndayebo died on Monday afternoon after sustaining injuries in an accident on Sunday.
Shortly after the news of his death broke, friends, associates, and professional colleagues of the veteran journalist took to their Facebook pages to mourn the death of Mr Ndayebo, with many expressing shock over the news while also praying to Allah to grant his soul eternal peace.
In his reaction, the Publisher of DAILY NIGERIAN, Jaafar Jaafar, said, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un! We lost a good friend, Danladi Ndayebo. He was a fine journalist and former commissioner of information in Niger State. May Allah grant you Jannatul Firdaus.”
In his reaction, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said Mr Ndayebo’s demise had caused him sadness and darkness.
“Sadness and darkness have enveloped us. Yesterday I was on the phone with Mohammed Isa. While we were talking, he warned me not to keep him talking for too long, as he was in a rush to catch up with my former Editor Danladi Ndayebo ahead of a trip to Minna to see their bosom friend Justice Aminu Garba, whose son is missing.
“We ended up talking a bit more on our brotherhood with Danladi, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz and Jaafar Jaafar before I wished them a pleasant trip and sent my prayers to the jurist.
“This morning, I tried to reach both Mohammed and Danladi to no avail. The summary of it is, they were involved in an accident. We lost Danladi, and Mohamed is recuperating in the hospital. Sadness and darkness have indeed enveloped us”, Mr Aruwan wrote.
The deputy general editor of Daily Trust Newspaper, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, also mourned the death of Mr Ndayebo, recalling his last telephone call with him shortly after the accident on Sunday.
“He called me 24 hours ago. On answering he said, “Hold on for Mohammed Isa“. I thought it was our usual banters. So I tried joking about it before he now said “Abdulaziz, Mohammed needs help. We just had an accident”.
“The seriousness in his voice said it all and it was atypical of Danladi Ndayebo. Then in the background I could hear Mohammed writhing in pains. I was numbed and I began scampering for who to call. I called Gimba Kakanda and shared with him Danladi’s contact.
“I would speak with him about four times, in between work, keeping tab on them until at 10:06pm when someone other than Danladi answered. I didn’t imagine anything ominous as all concerns were on Mohammed who was apparently more harmed.
“Please join us in prayers for the repose of Danladi’s soul and for Mohammed’s quick recovery, please,” Mr Abdulaziz wrote.
Also, a media aide to the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Phrank Shuaibu, in his condolences, recalled his last conversation with Mr Ndayebo.
He said the deceased only informed him that he had an accident, unknown to him that would be their last conversation.
“Good night my dear brother. You left so soon. You chatted me only this morning at 6.35am, informing me that you had an accident, little did I know that it was our last.
“The one I call the Hon Commissioner, Danladi Ndayebo. Whatever God does not stop by His powers, He allows in His wisdom. Rest on, soldier!” he wrote.
Hamisu Danladi wrote,”O Lord! Have mercy on our brother Danladi Ndayebo not because of his good or bad deeds, but because of his love of your beloved servant (SAW)!
Anthony Ada Abraham posted, “At the end, we’ll die one day. We can’t escape it no matter what! We can only do out best on earth and leave the rest. Rest on Danladi Ndayebo.”
Emmanuel Ado wrote, “Danladi Ndayebo, may God grant you eternal rest.Amen. He was a good man.”
