Alfa Abiodun, an Ilorin-based Islamic cleric, says those who engage in immoral sexual acts including rape, fornication and prostitution will face grievous punishment.
Mr Abiodun gave the warning in a sermon on Friday in Ilorin.
“Zina is not allowed and condoned in Islam. It is grave danger for Muslims to be involved in it and there is no excuse for it whatsoever,’’ Mr Abiodun said.
According to him, Zina is an Islamic legal term referring to unlawful sexual intercourse – adultery, fornication, rape, prostitution, incest, bestiality and homosexuality.
He said that those who commit such acts “will surely face grievous punishment in their graves’’, adding that Prophet Muhammad said “these people will be in the depth of hellfire undergoing punishment’’.
He lamented the increase in cases of gang rape in the society, citing the example of the University of Ilorin student that was raped and murdered.
Mr Abiodun said that those who engage in immorality spread evil on the earth, adding “there will be calamity where there is incessant rape and sexual lewdness’’.
He added that rapists and fornicators would never prosper in life.
According to the cleric, zina in Islamic laws is so grievous that it is next to idolatry.
“Zina is not allowed and condoned in Islam. It is grave danger for Muslims to be involved in it and there is no excuse for it whatsoever,’’ he said.
Mr Abiodun urged women never to indulge in prostitution because of hard times as there was no excuse to earn a living through prostitution.
He also cautioned women and young girls against indecent dressing but added that there was no excuse to raping any woman irrespective of the manner of her dressing.
“Fear Allah, and secure your hereafter, there will be grievous punishment for those people who have fallen deep into sin of fornication.
“When they are apprehended, the Islamic law prescribed that fornicators will receive 100 strokes of the cane,’’ he said.
He appealed to Muslims to report cases of rape to the relevant authorities.
