A pro-Northern group, Gamji Members Association, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for reclaiming the lost glory of agriculture in the country.
The grand patron of the association, Hassan Danbaba, who made the commendation in a statement on Wednesday, recalled that the agricultural sector used to be the nation’s bedrock before the advent of oil.
Mr Danbaba who is also the Magajin Garin Sokoto, also commended the President for appointing intellects like the CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
According to him, the governor has been doing well through various programs and interventions in support of the agricultural sector.
“Mr. President has done well with the CBN in banning the importation of maize.
“All regions in Nigeria have the capability to produce maize either during the dry season or the wet season and Nigeria’s farmers can equally produce maize for local consumptions and also export the produce to earn foreign exchange.
“We have absolutely no reason whatsoever to import maize and call on the President to additionally support maize farming.
“President Buhari and the CBN have achieved tremendous success with rice farming and seek the special intervention also with maize farming,” he said.
