The governor of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje and the senator representing Kano North Barau Jibrin have visited the consensus deputy governorship candidate of APC, Murtala Garo, past midnight Thursday.
DAILY NIGERIAN exclusively gathered that the governor, in a private outing without motorcade, visited the Railway Quarters residence of Mr Garo to persuade him to remain in the APC.
A source familiar with the visit said Mr Ganduje was the first to arrive at the residence before Mr Jibrin joined him.
The source added that the trio were currently holding a closed door meeting.
Mr Garo had recently expressed worries over Mr Ganduje’s withdrawal from senate contest for Mr Jibrin, who is his arch political enemy.
In protest over the decision, as well as the governor’s alleged failure to manage mass defections in the party, Mr Garo boycotted functions within and outside the Government House, leaving the flag-bearer, Nasir Gawuna, politically desolate.
Sources said the powerful former commissioner for Local Government may defect to PDP to work for his father in-law, Atiku Abubakar’s presidential bid.
The party in the state is in dire straits, with gale of defection fast eroding its electoral chances.
