The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by a faction of All Progressives Congress, APC, led by former governor Ibrahim Shekarau.
On February 22, the Court of Appeal in Abuja set aside the judgment of an FCT High Court which validated the ward and local government congresses conducted by the Shekarau-led faction in Kano.
While upholding all the three appeals filed by the faction of governor, the appellate court held that the lower court lacked jurisdiction to try the case and that was not a pre-election matter but an internal party matter.
The Shekarau faction therefore filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, praying for the apex court to set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal.
But in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa on Friday, the five-man panel held that the FCT High Court lacked a jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
The panel also said the case shouldn’t have been tried on Originating Summon.
