Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on Thursday inaugurated a committee that would roll out plans for the full implementation of the Ruga settlement project for herdsmen in the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the committee is to be chaired by Dr. Jibrila Ahmad and are mandated to submit its report within three weeks.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the inauguration of the committee, the governor said the implementation of the Ruga settlement in the state would stop the herders from wandering.
According to Mr Ganduje, the project would also expand economic capabilities of the herders, adding that it would also tackle insecurity and other attributed social vices.
“The committee is expected to identify suitable areas within the state for the establishment of Ruga settlement and also identify market for the products that may come out from the Ruga settlement among other things that may be required in making the Ruga more comfortable for the herders which include provision of animal clinics, health care facilities, schools among other social services,” Mr Ganduje said.
