Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has directed all his political appointees that want to contest for elections in 2023 to resign.
In a terse statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, on Sunday, Mr Ganduje said the appointees are given between now and Monday, April 18 to tender their resignation.
He said the directive was to comply with the provision of section 84(12) of the newly amended Electoral Act.
“Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje directed all political appointees running for elective offices in the forthcoming 2023 general elections to resign from their respective positions,” the statement said.
Mr Ganduje’s commissioner for Water Resources, Sadiq Wali, had earlier tendered his resignation and obtained governorship nomination form on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The governor however rejected the recent resignation of Baffa Dan’agundi, managing director of Kano Road Transport Agency, KAROTA.
