A concerned citizen of Kano state, Hamisu Magaji, has urged the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje to rescind on his decision to construct ‘needless’ Flyover and Under-pass bridges at the Dangi Roundabout at Zaria road in the state.
Mr Magaji, who made the charge during a press conference on Saturday in Kano, also advised the governor to retract his decision within 24 hours or face legal action.
According to him, the decision has become necessary in view of the impending damages such project could cause to the teeming Kano population, economically and socially.
He further said that Mr Ganduje’s decision to build the roundabout was done without recourse to the damages the blockage of that major road could cause.
Mr Magaji, the president of the Hamisu Magaji Foundation, added that the blockage will create social, economic and physical damages to the indigenes of the state.
“It is also observed that, the budgetary allocation of Dangi round about which was passed into law by the Kano state house of Assembly was only 150 million. This is clear demonstration of executive rascality of the present administration,” he said.
“We give Ganduje 24-hour ultimatum to retract his earlier decision of illegal construction of Dangi roundabout or face legal action.
“The Governor should concentrate on the construction of more important roads such as Sabuwar Gandu Road, brigade road, Samegu Dambare road etc. because Dangi roundabout is not congested.
“How can you construct three flyovers in the same route at the distance of less than two kilometers? This is clear demonstration of lack of foresight,” he regretted.
Mr Magaji, therefore, accused Mr Ganduje of continuously turned Kano’s treasury into a family and friends’ property.
He made reference to the recent fanfare of “unscrupulous and uncultured marriage ceremony where billions of money was wasted in the name of marrying off his daughter Fatima to Idris Abiola Ajimobi.
“It is still fresh in our memory of the billions of naira wasted ceremoniously in the name of commissioning of project by President Muhammadu Buhari which include the newly renovated hospitals that were constructed by the administration of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau,” he lamented.
