Hashim Suleiman, the Senior Special Assistant on Urban Beautification to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state, has resigned his appointment in the state government.
Speaking with newsmen in Kano shortly after tendering his resignation letter to Secretary to the State Government on Wednesday, Mr Suleiman said his reason for resigning was Mr Ganduje’s failure to concede defeat in the Last Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf, won the majority votes after polling 1,020,465 votes, against his closest rival, the incumbent governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 987,459 votes.
However, the election was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The INEC Returning Officer for Kano State, Bello Shehu, said the declaration became necessary as the total number of canceled votes had exceeded the margin between the two leading candidates of PDP and APC.
Mr Shehu, a professor, revealed that 128,572 cancelled votes had exceeded the 33,006 vote margin between the two leading candidates.
The election empire, therefore, fixed March 23 for a rerun in areas affected by the cancellations.
But, in Mr Sulaiman’s estimation, Mr Ganduje, as a transparent Khadimul-Islam, ought to have conceded defeat, so as to serve as a precedent to other Muslims who serve Allah in truth and sincerity.
In his letter of resignation, dated Wednesday, March 13, 2019, which he personally signed, reads, ”I write to formally inform you of my voluntary resignation from the office of SSA, Beautification. I thank you for offering me the opportunity to serve under your administration as SSA.”
