The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, has dispelled the rumour making the rounds that a former House of Representatives Speaker, Ghali Na-Abba, was dead.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Thursday night, the rumour of Mr Na-Abba’s death had begun to go viral, a situation that elicited wide reaction across the country.

However, speaking with DAILY NIGERIAN on Friday, the chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT, of the CNG, Nastura Ashir-Shariff, debunked the rumour, explaining that Mr Na-Abba’s rumoured death might have been mistaken for that of a former lecturer at the Kano University of Science and Technology, Dr. Ghali Umar Kabir, who passed away two days ago.

According to him, Mr Na-Abba is currently in London and could not return to Nigeria due to the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Mr Ashir-Shariff also disclosed that he had a phone conversation with Mr Na-Abba from London on Friday afternoon, stressing that the former speaker is in healthy condition.

“I just spoke with him on the phone. He is currently in London. He had been trapped with this lockdown that is why he couldn’t come back to Nigeria now.

“I had a conversation with him and he is alive, hale and hearty,” said Mr Ashir-Shariff.
