The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has assured continuous collaboration with United Nations Children and Education Fund, UNICEF, and other agencies on development programmes and girl-child education.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of his palace, Aminu Gidadawa, on Tuesday said Mr Abubakar gave the assurance when he received a delegation of UNICEF from Abuja, Kano and Sokoto, who paid him an advocacy visit.
Mr Abubakar, who is the President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, noted that Sokoto State was not disappointed with the speed towards education for all.
While bidding farewell to Mr Mohameden Fall, UNICEF Chief of Field Office Sokoto, who is retiring, the sultan said the departure of Fall would be greatly missed.
“We wish our friend, Fall all the best. Though, he is leaving yet he is with us in spirit, because of the good relationship we share,” Abubakar said.
He further stressed that he would be happy to receive officials from agencies that could make the state a better place for all.
He added that “Help is the most important thing in life. Without help, people cannot do anything.”
He said that though COVID-19 had stalled many things, but things were getting better and normalcy would soon return.
The Deputy Representative of UNICEF Nigeria, Ms Rushnan Murtaza and Dr Aboubacar Kampo, who is the Director, Health Section, UNICEF Headquarters, New York, expressed appreciation over the support and contributions of Sultan Abubakar.
They said his supports had greatly helped their programmes in Nigeria and Sokoto State in particular.
Mr Kampo appealed for more collaborations especially in the education and health sectors.
“We do want to believe that your great influence and vision will help us to achieve more results in the country,” he emphasised.
