Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has inaugurated rural electrification projects expected to serve eight communities in Lokoja and Kontokarfe Local Government Areas.
The projects inaugurated included a 33KVA Overhead Line Extension moving through Jamata from Zango-Daji junction to Banda in Lokoja Local Government.
Mr Bello said during the ceremony on Friday that the project was in fulfillment of his promise to provide electricity that would ensure the opening of cottage industries in the state.
The governor said that the projects would improve the living standard of the people, especially the rural dwellers, and disclosed that they were completed within one year.
He promised that the facility would be extended to more rural communities, and urged artisans to take advantage of the power supply to expand their trades.
The governor urged the people to protect the facility against vandals and abuse, and advised them to promptly pay their bills so that effective service would be sustained.
Some of the benefiting communities are Banda, Kungbani, Karara, Ijiho, Ohono, Akpayan, Jamata and Koton Karfe.
