The governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has suspended the Lawan (ward head) of Fannami in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State for serially raping a 6-year-old schoolboy.

In a statement by the state Commissioner of Information, Home Affairs and Culture, the governor directed that appropriate administrative and legal measures be taken immediately to investigate and prosecute the matter.

“Consequently, the traditional ruler involved has been suspended indefinitely from his position as ward head of Fannami Ward, Gashu’a pending the outcome of police investigation into the matter.

“The victim has also been evaluated and treated by medical personnel at General Hospital, Gashu’a,” said the statement.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the incident first occurred last year when the traditional ruler stopped the boy riding on his bicycle to school, lured him to a room and raped him.

“The Lawan had serially sodomised the young boy. The Lawan lured the boy as he rode his bicycle to school,” a neighbor, Sale Modu, told DAILY NIGERIAN.

“The boy’s father took him to hospital when he noticed blood and injury around his buttocks. It was at the hospital that the boy revealed the truth.

“The boy had earlier concealed the dastardly act from his parents for over a year because the man threatened to kill him if he ever tells anyone.”
