Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna has ordered the release of N3.8billion to the Kaduna State Pension Bureau for immediate payment of gratuities, death benefits and accrued rights in the contributory pension scheme.

In a statement on Tuesday, chief press secretary to the governor, Ibraheem Musa, said the approval was granted on compassionate grounds following pleas from pensioners and families of deceased civil servants.

He said the pensioners had expressed concerns about the negative impact of the ongoing verification exercise on their living conditions.

Mr Musa reiterated that the verification exercise is intended to remove “ghost” pensioners from the payroll to prevent the wastage of the state’s limited resources.

He further assured the pensioners of the speedy completion of the verification exercise so “that Kaduna State pensioners will enjoy uninterrupted payment.

He thanked the pensioners for their patience, understanding and continued support of his administration.

“Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Uba Sani has paid gratuities, death benefits and accrued rights to the tune of N6.6 billion,” the statement added.
