Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has inaugurated the reconstruction of a 35.6-kilometer road linking 62 communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.

The road links Bagoma to Gagumi, passing through Ungwan Fari, Idi Labo, Awaro, Tashan Keji, and Sabon Layi, among others.

He made this known at the groundbreaking ceremony held on Sunday, marking a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the area.

Mr Sani emphasized that Birnin Gwari Local Government was a crucial gateway to many parts of Nigeria, rich in mineral resources and agricultural potential.

He, however, said the area has faced significant security challenges due to its vast forested areas, which have been a source of concern for the residents and security forces alike.

“We are making progress in our efforts to stabilise the situation and are committed to facilitating the resumption of business activities in Birnin Gwari,” Sani said.

He also highlighted that the road project was part of his administration’s ‘Rural Transformation Drive’.

It is aimed at addressing infrastructural deficits, bridging the urban-rural divide, boosting local economies, and making rural living more sustainable.

Mr Sani reiterated his administration’s focus on infrastructure development, particularly road construction, which he believes was vital for economic growth and enhancing security.

“Some of these roads have already been completed, while others are nearing completion” Mr Sani said.

He added that the completion of the Bagoma-Gagumi road would significantly improve the socio-economic conditions of the people.

According to the governor, it will facilitate the movement of goods and people, reducing post-harvest losses, and enhancing security.

He explained that the project was also expected to generate direct and indirect employment during its construction phase.

In his remarks, the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Jibril Zubairu, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure in the area.

He also acknowledged the improvements in security, adding that there have been no reported attacks on the Birnin Gwari road for the past six months.
