No fewer than 130 Christian pilgrims have flown to Jerusalem, Israel for pilgrimage from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano – a courtesy of Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima.
The plane, carrying the first batch of the intended pilgrims, all from Borno State, took off at about 1:30 am on Friday.
Speaking to journalists at the airport, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, NCPC, Tor Ujah, urged the pilgrims to be good ambassadors in the holy land.
He also urged them to pray for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari while performing the pilgrimage rites.
“The president, who is in United Kingdom for a medical checkup, needs your prayers for a speedy recovery to enable him continue with the good work he has started,” he said.
Mr Uja, a reverend, also commended the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima for sponsoring the 130 pilgrims and urged other northern governors to emulate the gesture.
He said the gesture was “to heal a people that war had unnecessary ravaged.’’
The secretary praised the governor for his commitment and purpose in spite of the years of security challenges in the state and the entire North East.
He further urged the northern governors to give equal treatment to Christians in their land, saying fair treatment unites religions.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Borno Chapter, Naga Williams, also commended Mr Shettima for sponsoring the pilgrims.
