Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe has offered an appointment to Auwal Hassan, a 30-year-old man shot by an operative of the State Security Service, SSS, during a campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwami LGA of the state.
Mr Hassan was reportedly shot in the leg by the SSS operative during a commotion after the governor’s motorcade arrived at Bojude town for the campaign rally on Sunday.
The victim was said to have joined other villagers, who trooped out to receive the campaign trail of the governor, who is seeking re-election in 2023.
An eyewitness told Daily Trust that after the incident, some youths started chanting “Ba ma yi” (we don’t support you) at the campaign gathering.
“It took the effort of other security personnel in the governor’s entourage before the rampaging youths were calmed down,” the witness said.
While addressing the crowd shortly after the incident, Mr Yahaya ordered the immediate arrest of the SSS personnel for investigation.
He also directed that the victim be taken to the hospital for treatment at the expense of the state government.
The governor then announced the immediate appointment of the victim, along with four other youths from Bojude town as his personal assistants.
Attempts by DAILY NIGERIAN to get the reaction of the Gombe State Police Command proved abortive as the spokesman for the command, Mahid Mu’azu-Abubakar, didn’t pick up calls to his phone number.
