The governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, has summoned an emergency meeting with top party stakeholders and some commissioners in the state to take decision on their political future, following dissolution of the state party executives at all levels.
Sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the issue of dumping the ruling APC is on the agenda of the meeting, which attendees were asked not to enter with their mobile phones.
“Shehi (Gov. Yari) is really upset. I have never seen him this angry. He summoned the emergency meeting with some key stakeholders tonight to decide on his political future. As I speak to you, the meeting is ongoing.
“I heard some party leaders are spitting swear words against the national leadership of the party, urging the governor to dump the party,” said a source who preferred not to be named.
The National Working Committee APC on Friday announced the dissolution of the party executives at all levels in the state.
Yekini Nabena, the APC acting National Publicity in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said by the decision, all supposed party factions in Zamfara stands dissolved.
He added that the APC NWC-inaugurated committee for Zamfara are to conduct the Governorship and Legislative primaries in the State.
He stressed that Mr Yari and the dissolved state executives should not interfere in the primary elections.
Mr Nabena added that the Zamfara governorship and legislative primaries would hold from Saturday, October 5, to Sunday, October 6.
Crisis rocked the party in the state shortly after the endorsement of Mukhtar Idris to become the APC governorship candidate by Mr Yari.
All political parties are expected to conclude their primaries by Sunday, October 6 and forward names of candidates not later than October 7.
