Gov. Yusuf inaugurates Kano Sharia, Zakkat commissions

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated chairmen, commissioners and members of the state Sharia, Zakkat and Hubusi commissions.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, on Tuesday in Kano.

According to him, while inaugurating the bodies in Kano, Mr Yusuf emphasised Kano’s influential status in the Islamic world, citing its large number of renowned scholars, Islamiyya schools and Islamic study centres.

The governor explained that the appointees were selected on merit, competence and trustworthiness and expressed confidence that they would discharge their duties with dedication, enthusiasm and integrity.

He charged the Sharia Commission to foster unity among Muslims across different sects to enhance peace, stability and socio-economic development in the state.

Similarly, the governor tasked the Zakkat and Hubusi Commission to devise effective strategies to collect alms from wealthy individuals to support the less privileged thereby reducing poverty to the barest minimum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Sharia commission has Sheikh Abbas Daneji as chairman; Malam Yahaya Gwani Hadi as Permanent Commissioner I, and Sheikh Ali Dan Abba, Permanent Commissioner II.

Others are: Abubakar Ashafa; Malam Naziru Dorayi, Sheikh Mukhtar Mama, Sheikh Ibrahim Inuwa; Adamu Ibrahim; Abubakar Bala; Yawale Gulu; Aliyu Umar; and Sheikh Aliyu Harazimi, among others will serve as members.

The secretary of the commission is Sheikh Sani Ashir.

For the Zakkat and Hubusi Commission, Mr Yusuf listed Habibu Dan Almajiri as its chairman, Sheikh Nafi’u Umar Harazimi as Permanent Commissioner I, and Dr Ali Quraish, as Permanent Commissioner II.

Others are: Yahaya Hudu; Sheikh Hassan Kafinga; Sheikh Arabi Nufawa; Sani Umar; Prof. Garba Tofa; Adamu Andawo and Surajo Usman as members.

The rest are: Sheikh Adamu Guda; Inuwa Mustapha; Nura Badamasi; Abdullahi Sharifai and the representative of the Kano State Civil Service Commission to serve as members.

The governor expressed confidence that the newly-inaugurated officials would discharge their responsibilities effectively and contribute to the advancement of Islam, good governance and welfare of the people.
