The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has advocated the formation of a government of national unity as a necessity for tackling the myriads of problems confronting the nation.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Broadcasting, AbdulRasheed Shehu, Mr Atiku made the call while speaking at the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, 62nd annual general meeting in Lagos.

While decrying the present poor state of the country and its negative indices associated, the Waziri of Adamawa stressed that what is paramount now is how to tackle these anomalies.

He averred that history beckons on all of us to collectively work as a people to salvage the nation, hence an opportunity to do so has come up again.

According to him, the present deplorable condition the country finds herself calls for an experienced hand to take over and rescue the nation from total collapse.

Mr Atiku declared that he has the required vast experience in governance, having been in the democratic struggle in the country for a long time.

He equally highlighted five key interrelated areas of attention namely: unity, security, economy, devolution of power and education.

He emphasised that national unity will again be achieved, by giving every part of the country a high sense of belonging by forming a government of national unity.

Mr Atiku added that restructuring the country by devolving more powers to the regions and local governments will reduce pressure at the centre.
