An attack on the headquarters of police intelligence has triggered
panic in the northern Indian state of Punjab, officials said on Tuesday.
The Rocket-Propelled Grenade, RPG, was said to be fired from the street earlier on Monday evening, shattering
the glasses of the building in Mohali, about 8 km southwest of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab.
However, nobody was killed or wounded in the attack.
“A minor explosion was reported at the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in sector 77, Sahibzada Ajit Singh
Nagar at around 7:45 p.m. (local time) on Monday.
Meanwhile, no damage had been reported.
Senior officers were on the spot and an investigation is being done, forensic teams have been called,“ police
said in a statement to local media.
The police have cordoned off the area and sounded an alert; security has been heightened across the district.
Meanwhile, police team are monitoring the CCTV footage of the area in order to make a breakthrough in searching the perpetrators.
Reports said two suspects had arrived in a car and launched the RPG from about 80 meters away from the intelligence office building.
The RPG landed on the third floor of the building.
The attackers were said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack.
“We are investigating every possible angle and nothing can be ignored,’’ a senior police official told the media.
