A pro-democracy group, Youth Advocacy for good Governance, has passed a vote of confidence on the wife of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Mairo Tambuwal, for her philanthropic activities in the state.
The convener of the group, Abdulsamad Aliyu-Dogondaji, in a statement on Tuesday, said Mrs Tambuwal, through her NGO, ‘Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Forum’, has empowered many women and indigent youths in the state.
According to him, Mrs Tambuwal’s laudable initiatives included annual back to school program, caring for the mental well-being of the children and sponsoring of educational programs on radio or TV stations in the state.
Other activities of Mrs Tambuwal, according to him, included outreaches to Internally Displaced Person, IDP camps within and outside the state.
These initiatives, Mr Dogondaji said, were the easiest ways of reaching out as well as serving the general public.
He said: “On December 1, which is also the world day against HIV/AID, Hajiya Maryam-Mairo Tambuwal had sponsored a radio program on Caliphate FM Sokoto where key issues on the disease were discussed with Dr Auwal Musa.
“Furthermore, Mrs Tambuwal was recently conferred with a Merit award in recognition of her love and passion for humanity, and community development services.
“Mrs Tambuwal has also been an advocate on the fight against gender based violence.
“To this end, the MMAWT Forum joined #16 Days of Activism ‘against all who attempt to blur the lines around sexual consent, place blame on victims, and excuse perpetrators’.”
