A Coalition of Concerned Northern Youths, CCNY, has given the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, a 10-day ultimatum to resign from office for allegedly living an extravagant lifestyle.

The group’s national convener, Muhammed Ishaq, in a statement sent to DAILY NIGERIAN, said Mr Malami’s alleged flamboyant life is at the detriment of Nigerians.

This is following the recent wedding ceremony of Mr Malami’s son, AbdulAziz, which, according to the group, was characterized by spraying United States dollars and Nigerian Naira.

The group, therefore, said it would be forced to mobilise its members for a nationwide protest to press home their demands, if the minister fails to resign.

“Considering the position of Malami as the chief law officer of the federation, and someone who hails from the region with highest number of the poor in Nigeria, it is unbecoming of him to allow such irrational spending and reckless display of extravagance by members of his family.

“The irresponsible and daredevil ‘money spray’ at the lavish wedding ceremony of his son, Abdulaziz, is tantamount to affront on the sensibility of Nigerians, particularly the youths who wallow in abject poverty and massive unemployment.

“Spraying United States dollars and Nigerian Naira which characterized the ceremony, contravenes the CBN rule of abuse of Naira currency and is morally odoriferous.

“This, is considering the fact that it happened at a time when unprecedented penury and widespread joblessness pushes Nigerian youths into various forms of criminal activities,” the statement read.

The group, therefore, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to investigate corruption allegations levelled against Mr Malami.

The statement alleged that Mr Malami had bought a mansion worth N300m in Kebbi State in the name of his son, Abdulaziz; owns a massive event centre already in use and 3-star hotel under construction named AZBIR Arena along Sani Abacha Bye-pass Road in Birnin Kebbi.

It also added that the minister owns a newly constructed school at the back of Nitel in Gesse Phase 1 also in Birnin Kebbi; had purchased a N300m mansion in Abuja, and ordered the auction of crude oil and diesel seized by the Nigerian Government from an oil firm known as Omoh-Jay Nigeria Ltd.

All the allegations, according to the group, are too heavy to ignore considering Mr Malami’s position.
