A non-governmental organization, Academic Excellence Initiative, AEI, has sponsored 21 students for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The organisation also sponsored five other students for the National Examination Council, NECO, examination.
Speaking at the award presentation at the University of Ibadan, the project coordinator, Idris Openiyi, advised the awardees to make judicious use of the award.
He recalled that no fewer than 102 candidates had benefited from the scheme since its inception.
Mr Openiyi, therefore, advised the recent awardees to replicate excellence as well.
In his remarks, a pharmacist in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of University of Ibadan, Sefiu Olaleye, explained that the UTME candidates were selected after scoring 50 per cent and above in the selection test conducted in April.
According to him, the five NECO form awardees were selected after emerging as best students in English language and Mathematics.
Also speaking, a teacher from Methodist Grammar School, Bodija, Mrs Onifade, lauded the AEI’s initiative, urging the students to maximize the opportunity and reciprocate the gesture, especially when they become notable members of society.
A NECO form awardee from Methodist Grammar School, Banjo David, commended the group for the gesture, appealing for an increase in the number of awardees.
