Gunmen have attacked Bagana community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing four persons.

The gunmen, according to a report by Daily Trust, stormed the community on Tuesday night and attacked residents at random.

A resident, who sustained injuries, told the newspaper that the gunmen invaded a provision store and gunned down four persons on the spot.

It was not immediately clear why the store was attacked.

The source said the victims of the attack included one Alias Barrister, a diesel oil dealer and a dispensary staff of the local council’s health centre.

Confirming the story, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kogi State, DSP William Aya, said one Usman Salifu called the DPO in charge of the local government around 9.30p.m on Tuesday that his shop had been attacked by gunmen.

According to Mr Aya, Mr Salifu said the attack led to the death of his sales boy, Bashir Sule and three other customers while other victims sustained various degrees of injuries.

He added that on receipt of the distress call, the DPO mobilised his men to the scene and evacuated some of the injured to the hospital for treatment.

He said the command has commenced a manhunt for the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

DSP Aya said normalcy had returned to the community and urged residents to return home to continue their legitimate businesses.

Meanwhile, a new Police Commissioner, Idris Dauda posted to the state has assumed duty.

He called on journalists, traditional rulers and other members of the society to join hands with him in fighting crimes.

He replaced Ayuba Edeh, who is now AIG, zone 8, comprising Kogi and Kwara states.
