At least two people were confirmed dead and 50 houses razed down, following clash between Fulani and Bachama youths in Bunari village, northeast part of Adamawa State.
Witnesses said the conflict sparked after a brawl over a bar of soap between a Fulani youth and a Jenjo youth.
The Jenjo youth died in the initial fight.
“Irked by the development, some Bachama youths went on reprisal attack and lynched the Fulani youth,” said a witness who craved anonymity.
“Some Fulani youths then decided to attack the Bachamas, insisting that the matter is between Fulani and Jenjo which did not concern the Bachamas.”
The reprisal by the Fulani youths led to the burning down of about 50 houses of the Bachamas, who in turn retaliated by killing over 20 cows.
“Both parties are threatening further violence and I want to appeal to government to take necessary measures to avert further clash”, said a resident.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Lamurde Local Government, Vrati Nzonzo, has visited the area and sued for peace.
Mr. Nzonzo, who was received by the village Head of Bunari, Jolly Jonah, and the leader of Fulani community in the area, Lamido Babiyo, called for peace and warned that government would not condone such reckless actions.
While recounting their losses, comprising lives, houses, farm produce, cows and missing relatives, the community leaders said they were taking measures to ensure peace and normalcy in the areas.
When contacted, the Adamawa Police Command spokesman, Othman Abubakar confirmed the incident, saying no arrest was yet made.
Mr. Abubakar, a superintendent, said police had boosted security in the area, and that normalcy has been restored.
