BEING TEXT OF JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE CHAIRMAN, ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS (APC) KANO STATE CHAPTER, HON. HARUNA UMAR DOGUWA AND STATE ACTING CHAIRMAN ELDERS COMMITTEE ALHAJI AUDU KIRARE
Distinguished Members of the Press, you are fully aware of the death of the revered mother of His Excellency, the Governor of Kano Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR on Friday, 4th March, 2016. The Late Fatima Umar Abdullahi, aged 95 left behind the Governor, Ganduje and 5 others and numerous grand and great grandchildren.
Expectedly and as you all witnessed, close associates, Friends, relatives and well wishers from over the Country attended the funeral which was led by the Emir of Kano, Mal. Muhammad Sanusi II, the Federal Government Delegation that comprised 4 Ministers, under the Chairmanship of Gen. Abdulrahman Danbazau Rtd. Minister Interior, among others.
We wish to use this medium to officially on behalf of the Executive Committees of APC from the State, Local Governments and ward levels as well as on behalf of all the party members to condole our party leader and revered Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR over this irreparable loss. We ardently pray for the repose of her soul in Jannatul Fiddaus – Amen.
Gentlemen of the Press, the purpose of this press Conference is occasioned by the fact that our party, the APC in Kano is the dominant political party having won all elective posts during the 2015 general elections and before then won all the 44 Local Government Chairmen and 484 Councillors position. The need to safeguard this unprecedented position for the party is non-negotiable.
Against this backdrop, therefore, the Unity of the party and the overwhelming support it enjoys from the citizenry should be kept intact. The need to keep this hard earned positive traits can only be achieved by entrenching loyalty, discipline, orderliness and cohesiveness within the rank and file of the party members.
As you have all witnessed, quite a number of high and mighty across the width and breadth of Nigeria came to Kano and condoled the Governor over the loss of his dear Mother. Interestingly, some were from the opposition camp. All of such personalities exhibited unprecedented sense of sympathy, consideration, compassion, kindness and brotherhood to travel long distances to attend the funeral the very day she passed away. The funeral and the condolence visits in the subsequent days were conducted in an orderly and peacefully manner with decorum, humility, civility and decency in keeping with the religious and cultural norms of our people, except one.
The only unfortunate incident was the one associated with the visit of the immediate past Governor, Senator, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso FNSE. What specifically made the visit a misdemeanour to our party spirit of discipline and brotherhood, was the fact that the visit was purely political as against the mission of condolence. we wish to unequivocally State that the leadership of APC in Kano was not officially informed about the intention of the Senator to pay a condolence visit to the bereaved Governor Ganduje let alone the display of seemingly presidential campaign slogans and chanting of hatred and vulgar vituperations against Governor Ganduje organised and executed during the visit. We want to categorically reiterate here that the State Party leadership has not in any way been part of this unfortunate political misconduct, will not support it and will not condone it.
The visit and all the ugly traits exhibited are available in the social media domain being circulated for all to verify the nasty utterances that proofed the clear case of party indiscipline that trailed the Kwankwaso Condolence visit.
When the hired crowd was denied access to the Airport Premises, they climbed over the fence breaking the iron barriers and destroyed the security scanners. All the pictures are available for confirmation. Also, the Party thugs were busy distributing presidential campaign posters, car stickers reading “Kwankwasiyya 2019, Engr. RABIU Musa Kwankwaso for president, Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
The Kano State APC Executive Committee and Elders jointly, hereby condemned the character and texture of the Kwankwaso condolence visit and its portent objective as a launch pad of his Presidential ambition campaign which was wholly unfounded. We wish to state categorically that there is no Presidential vacancy in the first place. Our loyalty and commitment is to our able President Muhammadu Buhari and his policies and programmes.
The act of thuggery and brazen show of daggers, swords and other forms of weapons by sponsored/hired hoodlums was totally unwholesome abhorable and condemnable by all our teeming loyal party members. We wish to draw the attention of all and sundry, that the Party and leadership hierarchy as enshrined in the APC Constitution must be respected by all party members in respective of their conceited arrogance. The APC party leader in Kano State is the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR whose leadership of the State and the party must be jealously guided by all well-meaning members of the party.
The Party would leave no stone unturned in ensuring discipline, orderliness and loyalty as prescribed by the Constitution of the Party.
We hereby call on all party members in the State to remain calm and resolute in their unity and tolerance and also shun being used by disgruntled elements to achieve their self-serving motives. The Party will forward a formal letter of Complaint to the State Commissioner of Police and the Director, State Service for appropriate action.
The case of party indiscipline associated with the visit of Senator Kwankwaso will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with in accordance with the Constitution of our Party. Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria, Long live APC.
