The president of the Students Union Government, SUG, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Najim Gbefwi, has revealed how hoodlums terrorised students living in off-campus.

He told DAILY NIGERIAN that the Sunday attack was the fourth in a series of attacks on the students since the resumption of the ASUU strike in October.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that a student was severely injured as a result of a deep cut, and many students had their valuables robbed during the last attack.

Though some sources claimed the attackers were armed robbers, Mr Gbefwi said the modus operandi of the assailants suggests otherwise, as they usually come in large numbers, numbering 30-40.

The student union leader further revealed that the body has made several attempts to draw the attention of the security agencies after the previous attacks, but their efforts had fallen on deaf ears.

“We have been having a series of attacks, This is the fourth incident since we resumed from the ASUU strike.

“When the first two incidents happened, I reported them to the Keffi Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force and the DPO, with a view to curtailing the ugly incidents. And they assured us they would do something about it.

“But shortly after that, the students were attacked again, in fact, this last one was very brutal. That’s why I had to escalate the matter to the commissioner of police,” Mr Gbefwi said.

He also disclosed that a female student was attacked with a dagger, and one of her fingers was almost cut off during the attack.

Baba, has deployed a crack team of officers of the Nigerian Police to Keffi to stem the tide of increased criminal activity in areas occupied by students who are living off-campus.”

While sympathizing with the victims, Mr Jidda assured the management that all necessary actions are being put in place to stop the criminals from operating, noting that this would be the last time such an unpleasant incident would happen in those areas.

He advised the students to always report suspicious movement and activity to the Angwan Lambu Police Station.

Similarly, the Emir of Keffi and Chancellor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Shehu Chindo-Yamusa III urged the students to stop conniving with people of questionable character and divulging sensitive information to unwarranted people.
