Khadija Ahmed Lame, the wife of popular social media influencer, Abubakar Idris, aka Dadiyata, has expressed optimism that her husband would return home one day.

Dadiyata has been missing since August 2, 2019, when some yet-to-be identified men bundled him into his vehicle and took him away.

The 34-year-old lecturer was said to be within his compound in Barnawa, Kaduna, when the assailants struck.

Speaking with the BBC Hausa service on Wednesday, Mrs Lame said dealing with the disappearance of her husband for the past four years has been tough on her and the children.

“I can’t describe how I feel, but it is sad feelings. I never thought it would take this long for him to return. In fact, I have never imagined him disappearing for a day, and here we are counting four years. It’s really devastating,” she said.

“At the beginning, we were meant to believe that there was an ongoing investigation, but up until now nothing has come out of it.

“And nobody is even talking to us, except for the recent promise made by the governor of Kano. And I don’t even know if they have started the investigation as promised because nobody has contacted us,” she said.

Mrs Lame also disclosed that she has been lying to her two children that their father travelled and would return soon.

“The children have begun to smell a rat. Because I have been lying to them that their father has travelled and will return soon. They kept asking questions, and I would plead with them to be patient and that he would return soon,” she added.

On how the family has been faring over the years, she said friends and relatives of her disappeared husband have been supporting the family.

When asked if she was still hopeful of reuniting with her husband, the mother of two said: “I believe he will return. I have never thought that he was gone forever. We will soon reunite, by God’s grace. So I’m very optimistic that he will return”.

“I am appealing to the new government and any individual who has the influence to rescue my husband to do so, please. I am afraid that all the lies I have been telling my children will soon be exposed.

“Every blessed day, I plead with them not to worry that their father will return. And he hasn’t returned yet. I don’t want the children to see me as a liar,” she pleaded.
