The president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Monday said he had no power to reverse the suspension of a former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume.
Mr. Ndume, a top campaigner for the confirmation of the embattled acting chairman of the EFCC Ibrahim Magu, drew the ire of the senators when he asked the Senate to investigate media reports on alleged import of a bullet-proof Range Rover by Mr Saraki and raising questions about the Dino Melaye’s degree.
Last week, Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, met with the Senate president in his office and appealed for Mr Ndume’s reinstatement.
Speaking to State House reporters after audience with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Mr Saraki said the decision must have the approval of his colleagues.
He said he would only convey the message of the Borno State Governor on the matter to the larger house that suspended Mr Ndume in the first instance.
He said being a Senate president or speaker of the House of Representatives only make them first among equals.
