Hundreds of Northern SME start-ups storm Kano for business fair

No fewer than 500 small-scale entrepreneurs, drawn from the 19 northern states, stormed Kano State on Friday for a business fair organized by the Inspire Arewa Youth Initiative.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the fair, tagged: tagged SME Expo 1.0, featured young entrepreneurs who showcased their businesses such as tailoring, make-up, photography, fashion materials, among others.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the initiative, Muhammad Ibrahim, said the fair was organized to provide opportunities for young entrepreneurs to establish links and contacts in order to expand their business.

According to Mr Ibrahim, the fair will also avail them of the opportunity to interact with the officials of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, as well as register their business at the venue without difficulty.

He said: “This event will also sensitize the young entrepreneurs on how to maintain and grow their businesses and be conversant with how to get profits.

“They will also be sensitized on how to start a business from scratch to the peak and get profits.”

Mr Ibrahim further said that the NGO, which has over 200 members, would continue to engage stakeholders in a bid to empower more youth from the northern part of the country.

One of the participants, Marwanatu Alhassan, a photographer, said she was at the fair to broaden her knowledge about her business.

According to her, as a photographer, the event would also provide an opportunity for her to have knowledge of other areas of entrepreneurship.

“This will enable me to have a variety of ideas in my head in order to broaden my business to other goods and services,” Ms Alhassan said.

The photographer also noted that the event is important to her, “because as an entrepreneur, I face some challenges”.
