Commissioner of Police, Kano Police Command, Mohammed Wakili, popularly known as ‘Maza Kwaya-Mata Kwaya’, has refuted rumors that he is a drug addict, saying: ‘I have never taken drugs in my life’.
Speaking with Daily Trust Saturday, Mr Wakili said that the way God created him; gesticulating, twirling while talking, was being mistaken for a mannerism of a drugs addict.
“Maybe because of my actions and my mannerisms. Sometimes, I guess, to them I act like a drug addict, but that’s my nature. I gesticulate, twirl, and do other physical expressions that some find funny, and unusual, which is my nature.
“That is how God created me, and I cannot do anything about it. I have never taken drugs in my life and until I joined the Nigeria Police Force, I had never even heard about some of these drugs,” he said.
Mr Wakili restated his stand on fighting drugs abuse to the pulp, saying: “I am just passionate about giving my own little contribution to eliminating drug abuse because I understand the destruction it causes.
“I cannot just fold my arms and watch as such things go on without my own contribution to stop them when I can do something, no matter how little, to address the problem at my own level.
“I think the effect being caused by the menaces mentioned piqued my interest and resolve to do this very important job because I understand the effect and consequences of these vices on communities.”
According to him, “if all the law enforcement agencies agree to fight drug abuse today, we can do it perfectly.”
Mr Wakili, therefore, called on stakeholders, especially agencies like NDLEA, NAFDAC, Immigration and other law enforcement agencies to discharge their responsibilities.
“Our religious and traditional leaders are super stakeholders, because whenever they talk, their subjects respect and listen to them, therefore they are very important in this fight against drug abuse, and thuggery,” Mr Wakili stated.
