Mohammed Imam has emerged the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2019 governorship election in Borno.
Mr Imam polled 2,785 votes against his distant second, Bukar Kyari, who got 54 votes.
The third candidate, Mohammed Wakil got 20 votes.
But Mr Kyari kicked against the process on Sunday in Maiduguri, saying the exercise was marred by irregularities, saying he had resolved to seek redress in court.
Mr Kyari alleged that there was contempt of court in conducting the election by the Gadama faction, which was not recognized by the court.
He argued that the court recognized Mr Badari as the chairman of the party, wondering why the national secretariat of the PDP conducted the election through the unrecognized faction.
Mr Kyari alleged that he and the other candidate were not furnished with the list of the delegates by the organizers of the election, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
“The exercise is illegal, I reject its outcome and the national leadership of the party should annul the election.
“We, as law-abiding citizens, will not indulge in illegalities; we shall seek redress in competent court of law for our rights,” he said.
