The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has assured the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, that he would implement their demands if elected president in 2023.
Mr Abubakar, who stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at a parley organized by the CAN, noted that their demand aligned with his vision.
“I stand before you here not to campaign but to tell you the honest truth, what you have presented to us is what I have always believed in, and if I have the opportunity, I swear to God, I will do it.
“The fundamental front lines that we have seen in the last seven to eight years only occurred because you wanted change in 2015, and you elected the change you are seeing and experiencing now,” he said.
He recalled how he wrote a book on his thoughts even when former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his constituents in Adamawa disagreed with him, saying he still stood by them.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of deceiving Nigerians in the 2015 by promising to restructure the country.
The former vice president also flayed the APC for having allegedly plunged the country into an abyss of backwardness.
He, therefore, appealed to Nigerians to return the PDP to power in order “to continue with the good work it started in 1999”.
He said: “You must realise that there is a difference between the government that ran this country from 1999 to 2015 and the government that has been running this country from 2015 till date.
“One example I want to give you; they said they need restructuring, did they restructure? So they told Nigerians what they wanted to hear and did a different thing when they got the opportunity. PDP is not like that.”
