The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Friday, cleared the air on the controversy that trailed the appointment of Amina Zakari as head of its collation centre for the 2019 presidential election.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mrs Zakari’s appointment met a lot of criticisms from both the opposition parties as well as many other Nigerians, alleging that the appointment was strategic to facilitate the rigging of the presidential election.
However, speaking on a Sunrise Daily program of the Channels Television on Friday, Director of voter education and publicity at INEC, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, said the committee Mrs Zariki will be heading is merely in charge of welfare.
He added that, “She has no role whatsoever with the process of collation.”
“Remember that she was also very involved in negotiating with the ICC management in 2015 for the use of the facility so her duty is to ensure the facility is ready,” he recalled.
