The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the governorship election of Osun State.

Declaring the results on Sunday morning, the INEC Chief Returning Officer for Osun, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said the PDP candidate scored 403,371 votes to emerge winner.

Mr Ogundipe said Gboyega Oyetola, the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled 375,027 votes to emerge second.

He said the candidate of PDP satisfied the requirement of the law, and “is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected.”

Mr Adeleke won 17 out of the 30 local government areas in the state.

The 2022 Osun governorship election took place in all the 30 local government areas of the state with 3,763 polling units and 332 registration areas.
