By Yunusa Umar – The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Mohammed Umar-Bago, a gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress, as the winner of Niger gubernatorial election held on Saturday.
The incumbent federal lawmaker representing Chanchaga Federal Constituency polled 469,896 votes to clinch the seat.
The state INEC officer, Professor Clement Alawa, who made the declaration in the state collation center, said Mr Bago has satisfied the requirements and is hereby declared the winner.
He said: “I, Prof. Clement Alawa, hereby satisfied that I’m returning officer for the 2023 Niger State governorship on 18th of March, 2023.
“Umar Mohammed Bago of APC scored 469,896 while his closest opponent Alhaji Isah Liman Kantigi of PDP polled 387,476”, Mr Alawa said.
The total number of votes cast is 889,956.
