Former Super Eagles captain and Arsenal legend, Nwankwo Kanu, has led ex-Internationals, celebrities from the entertainment industry and thousands of people on Wednesday in Abuja to walk 7.2 km to commemorate World Heart Day.
The walking exercise started from Bullet Garden and terminated at Unity Fountain Garden near Transcorp Hilton Hotel in the nation’s capital.
A statement by the LOC media coordinator, Sharif Abdallah, said the theme for this year was titled “Walk with Nwankwo Kanu to make the heart beat”.
This was part of the efforts of the former U23 captain and Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medalist to create more awareness on different heart related diseases.
The World Health Organisation, WHO, has earmarked September 29 annually to celebrate World Heart Day.
Kanu was joined by his former teammates, Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba and Emmanuel Babayaro and host of A list celebrities from the entertainment industry including Junior Pope and Ayodeji Richard Makun popular known as AY.
The Kanu Heart Foundation was founded in the year 2000 by the former Ajax of Holland’s frontman to provide help for less privilege who can’t afford surgery and suffering from different heart related problems.
The foundation has secured the surgery of 585 patients who suffered various heart related diseases.
