The Kano State Agency for Mass Education, on Monday graduated 3,500 members of vigilante group from functional literacy learners’ programme.
The program, which was organised to mark this year’s International Literacy Day, was designed to educate the vigilante on the rudiments of security operations as well as gadget handling.
Speaking during the ceremony, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje said the graduation was timely in view of security challenges bedevilling the country
According to him, the state government had taken the issue of security seriously, noting that security operation could not be successful without education.
He maintained that the vigilante corps must be completely educated to be able to discharge their duties effectively.
Mr Ganduje noted that the literacy programme was imperative as it would enhance the effectiveness of their operations in the state.
“Without education, you cannot operate security gadgets. This will enable them know security operation effectively.
“Members of vigilante group must know security education. They must be educated in order to know much about new security tips and measures that are being introduced globally.
“We can say that we have 3,500 literate members of vigilante group. I congratulate you on this giant step you have taken,” he said.
Mr Ganduje also promised to pay the remaining training allowances for the part-time teachers that taught the vigilante corps, pledging to improve the vigilante corp in a bid to strengthen their operation to keep Kano safe.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Agency for Mass Education, Hadiza Baffa, commended the governor for his commitment towards ensuring the success of the programme.
