The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, Kano Deport branch, has said there is no plan to review pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petroleum.
Rumour was making the rounds through social media that the Federal Government was planning to reduce the pump price of petroleum from N145 to N95.
However, in a press conference at its office in Kano on Tuesday, the chairman of the association, Bashir Dan-mallam, described the report as mere lie and rumour aimed at deceiving Nigerians in order to achieve a certain political goal.
He noted that the rumour was the handiwork of certain unscrupulous elements, who were jealous of the relative availability of the product, even as the federal government had succeeded in tackling the menace of fuel scarcity, which became a tradition in every end of the year.
According to Mr Dan-mallam, he contacted the Managing Director of PPMC, Umar I. Ajiya on the issue, who assured him that the report was a blatant lie.
He noted that the rumour peddlers were bent on inciting the people against the federal government, adding that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC was doing it’s best to ensure availability of the products in the country.
“We have received the rumour that the Federal government is planning to review the price of petroleum from N145 to N95. This is not true. There is no report like this.
“I had contacted the MD PPMC, Umar I. Ajiya. He confirmed to me that the report is lie. This is the handiwork of politicians who wants to incite people against the government,” he said.
The chairman also called on the marketers across his branch, comprising Kano, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina and Yobe states to disregard the rumour and continue running their lawful business.
He also assured Nigerians that the era of end-of-year petrol scarcity is over, revealing that all the deports across the country were filled to the brim with the PMS.
He however called on the federal government to ensure speedy reconstruction of Lagos-Kano, Port Harcourt – Kano, Calabar- Kano and Warri-Kano roads for easy transportation of the products.
