An Iranian court has sentenced three people – two women and one man – to 10 years imprisonment on charges of spying for Britain and Israel, local media reported on Tuesday.
Judiciary spokesman, Gholamhossein Esmaili, said Anuscheh A, who also has British citizenship and Ali J, had worked for Israel’s Mossad spy agency, according to Iran’s Isna news agency.
The third suspect, Aras A, had been employed by the British Council in Iran and is said to have spied for the British foreign intelligence agency MI6.
She was originally sentenced in May, with the court confirming it on Tuesday.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry and a spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office did not immediately respond to dpa’s request for comment.
