About 901 Islamophobic crimes were reported to authorities across Germany in 2020, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.
Eighty-four people were injured in Islamophobic attacks, according to the data, which the ministry released in response to a lawmaker’s request.
“What we are looking at with the reported crimes is just the tip of the iceberg,’’ Ulla Jelpke, the member of the hard-left party Die Linke who made the request said.
She added that many of the everyday insults, threats and assaults went unreported due to victims not coming forward.
In 2019, 884 Islamophobic crimes were reported across Germany.
