IT’S OFFICIAL: Buhari signs Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill into law

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally appended his signature on to the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill currently before him for assent.

The Bill, which seeks the reduction of the age limit for contesting elective offices, took months at the National Assembly before being transmitted to the president for assent.

Recall that the president, during his Democracy Day address on Tuesday, May 29, pledged to sign the bill as soon as possible and has since delivered on his promise.

Disclosing the presidential assent to the bill, Mr Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media and Strategy, Bashir Ahmed, said: “History is made, President @MBuhari has signed into law the #NotTooYoungToRun bill.

“Congratulations to all young men and women at @YIAGA and all the supporters of the movement.”

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that with the signing of the bill, Sections 65, 106, 131, and 177 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) has been amended to reduce the age of qualification for the office of the President from 40 to 35 years.

While that of the Governor should be from 35 to 30 years; Senate from 35 to 30 years; House of Reps from 30 to 25 years; and the House of Assembly from 30 to 25 years.
