The Controller, Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, Lagos Command, Adewale Adebisi, has assured that all Custodial centres in the state will be intensively monitored against attacks.
Mr Adebisi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that inmates and custodial environments in the state were properly guarded round-the-clock by armed security and NCoS personnel.
He warned criminals to stay off custodial facilities in Lagos State as security personnel would not hesitate to move against any perceived danger.
“Criminal elements must not forget how the NCoS in Lagos reacted to the melee that ensued within Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, recently.
“One of the attackers who attempted to hijack an inmate brought for hearing got shot while trying to dispossess an armed personnel of his rifle.
“Heavy security reinforcement was deployed to the court premises to prevent a breakdown of law and the inmates were successfully returned into secure custody of the Correctional Service,’’ Adebisi said.
According to him, the NCoS in the state has zero tolerance for invasion of its facilities.
At about 5 p.m. on Nov. 28, the medium security custodial centre in Jos came under attack by gunmen leading to the escape of some of the inmates.
Those who escaped were re-arrested just as one of them turned himself over to the police.
