Source at the Zamfara State Government House on Saturday offered fresh insight into the rationale behind the resignation of Jamilu Zanna as the state’s Commissioner of Education.
Recall that in the early house of Saturday, Mr Zanna had addressed a press conference at his Gusau residence, declaring his resignation from the governor’s cabinet.
The former commissioner stated that his resignation stemmed from what he described as a lack of consultation and highhandedness on the part of Mr Matawalle in the handling of the state affairs.
However, in a swift reaction, the source at the state’s Government House said Mr Zanna’s resignation followed Governor Matawalle’s refusal to make him Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the state.
Another source told DAILY NIGERIAN that Mr Zanna might have felt disgruntled as the governor had been appearing unyielding to his autocratic demands.
The source said: “Jamilu Zanna had intended to remote-control the governor in terms of appointment and who does what in the state.
“Much to his chagrin, the governor decided to be his own man and steer the affairs of the state fairly and squarely.”
Meanwhile, Governor Matawalle, through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Zailani Bappa, dismissed Mr Zanna’s reasons for the resignation as paltry, shallow and a political joke.
He said: “it is rather unfortunate that someone who claims closeness to His Excellency will resort to this unwholesome antic which is clearly a ploy to achieve a cheap and personal political goal.”
“To put the records straight, His Excellency, Governor Bello Muhammad promised the people of Zamfara State peaceful co-existence and good governance.
“The whole world has acclaimed the excellent achievements of His Excellency in bringing peace and introduction of programmes for the speedy development of the state.
“It is therefore, unfortunate that personal and selfish considerations will becloud the vision of trusted confidants at a time when all hands must be on deck to begin a new era in the history of Zamfara State.”
He, however, wished Mr Zanna all the best in his future endeavours.
